BENT BUT NOT BROKEN
Today, I want to extensively address the issues of life that often bother our hearts and perhaps plunge us into unexpected state of confusion and paralysis. Do not fall into oblivion of the ‘smooth road’. In fact, a bit of rise and fall or up and down is allowed in this life. Believe you me, that’s reason for this saying, ‘Life is good’
Life’s pressures are inevitable. They will surely come, but we must not be consumed by it. Mind you, we are created to resolve issues in life and of course, to be able to have dominion in all.
To begin, let us have contextual meaning of these words, ‘bent’ and ‘broken’
‘Bent’ may simply has these listed meaning: sharply curved or having an angle, bent wire, twisted, crooked, deformed, misshapen, out of shape, irregular, corrupt, struggle, fight.
‘Broken’ literally means the following words: overpowered, defeated, smashed, shattered, crushed, beaten, surrendered, dead.
Life’s pressures will come, yet we MUST not be broken.
According to: II Corinthians 4:8-12 King James Version (KJV)
8 We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair;
9 Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed;
10 Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body.
11 For we which live are always delivered unto death for Jesus’ sake that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our mortal flesh.
12 So then death worketh in us, but life in you.
Without any shadow of doubt, there are so many things we wrestle with in the flesh and in the Spirit. There is a constant war going on within us and around us. Will we please ourselves and our flesh or will we overcome the struggles we face by living in the Spirit of God and trusting Him to get us through? We all have so many responsibilities that tug at us and pull at us, bending us this way or that way.
How do we balance it all and become the person Jesus has called us to be? That is the one of the reasons for this teaching today, to encourage all to pin no trust in anyone but God Almighty, even when you lack understanding to all happenings in life.
However, you may wonder why many go through difficult struggles that life brings as if they are Persona Non Grata. When I think about my successes, and the successes of my peers, several practices immediately jump out at me. A broken life, kills self confidence!
You want to be successful in life and not be broken…? Do the followings:
- Face your fears.
FEAR is an acronym for Falsehood Expression Appearing Real. Fear is a mirage. FEAR may either be ‘Forget Everything And Run’ or Forget Everything And Rise’. Without shadow of doubt, whenever you are determined to face what you fear, your fear disappears. Have you ever noticed this? That’s how to conquer fear. Don’t dismiss those fears; face them. Say, here’s what I’m afraid of. I wonder what I could do to change that. Face your fears today.
Also, Worry is a waste of time. It does not change anything. It only messes with your mind and steals your happiness.
2. Let go of the past.
Mistakes are stepping stones to success. People who are willing to take risks inevitably make mistakes. That’s OK. I’ve learned more from my mistakes than my successes. In fact, I know, no man couldn’t have been successful without making mistakes. So stop beating yourself up. And in that same vein, try not to be so hard on others.
“Past is where you learn the lesson, future is where you apply the lesson, so do not lose in the middle.
“No one can start the next chapter of his/her life, if he/she keeps reading the last chapter again & again”
“PAST is a nice place to visit but certainly not a good place to stay”
“Every SAINT has a past and every sinner today has a future”
3. Get out of your usual way
You don’t have to keep doing what you’ve been doing the last six years if it’s not yielding the benefits you want. Pick a new direction and try the way. Use your willpower to start the process. You don’t have to repeat last year. Clean up the errors. Invest it now in the next year. Watch it makes the difference because there is a difference between doing things right and doing right thing.
4. Seek out new experiences.
It’s easy to get caught up spending your time doing the things you already know you like. If that’s all you do, you won’t grow as much as a person. The wider the range of experiences you pursue, the more you will be exposed to different people, lifestyles and perspectives. If you can put yourself in someone else’s shoes, you will have more empathy. Seeking out new experiences means you’re willing to challenge yourself and want to keep learning about the world around you. Those are two keys to success.
“Nothing ever stays the same. Be happy, no matter what happens because change is a big part of life”
5. Celebrate milestones and cherish small beginning
May I say this? When you finally achieve that goal that has been eluding you, it won’t feel as great as you imagined it would. That’s been my experience anyway. You’ll be a much happier person if you celebrate each step along the way. If you wait to celebrate that one elusive goal — you might end up waiting a long time. There’s so much more for you to appreciate. And when you make the time to celebrate milestones, you welcome others your friends and family to take part in your success.
6. Demand integrity from self
Integrity is like loyalty. You can’t demand it of someone else; you can only demand it of yourself. Be the best example of loyalty and you’ll get loyal followers. Be the best example of integrity and you’ll have people around you who have integrity. Lead the way.
- Be discipline.
Discipline is giving oneself to commands and following it up with actions. I can’t give you much better advice than that because disciplines enhance great success. The distance between dreams and reality is called Discipline. Disciplines build cities. A well-disciplined activity creates abundance, uniqueness and productivity.
If we are not disciplined, the world will do it for us. Discipline is the soul of an army. It makes small numbers formidable; procures success to the weak and esteem to all. The only discipline that lasts is self-discipline.
8. Give back
Remember that the happiest people are not those getting more, but those giving more. Whether it’s to a charity, a cause you believe in or a stranger who could benefit from your help, there are immeasurable benefits to thinking of others. For one, you’ll become a better and more attentive listener. You’ll focus less on your own shortcomings.
9. Practice Happiness
Research has found that happy people do better at work, so when you’re home, consciously choose to do activities that lift you. Happiness is a habit, cultivate and do not keep the key to your happiness in someone else’s pocket.
Be happy for this moment, this moment is your life!
Schedule mini-breaks into your day until it becomes a habit. Go for a walk outside, do some stretching, read poetry, or simply have a cup of tea. Choosing what to do will rely on what makes you happy.
“Often take every time to remind yourself of what goes on well,”
- Believe in yourself.
You’ve got to believe in the possibilities. You’ve got to believe that tomorrow can be better than today. Develop self-belief and you will be surprised at what it will turn out to be. There isn’t a skill you can’t learn; there isn’t a discipline you can’t try; there isn’t a class you can’t take; there isn’t a book you couldn’t read. Life is likened to riding a bicycle, to maintain a balance you must keep moving.
In conclusion, everyone must desire to never give up, never to throw in the towel, never surrender to the adversary of our soul. We must persevere through everything we face, we must look past the outside appearance of what we see and see the truth about what we are wrestling with. The moment is now to stand up in the face of every obstacle that is against you and declare that nothing will stop you from being who God has chosen you to be. You can be who you have always dreamed you could be, God has made a way for you and I
To overcome, there will be a fight; there will be a struggle, but we can do it with the HELP of God Only. We might be bent and things may not be perfect in our lives yet, but one thing is for sure we will NEVER be broken.
