You have so many things to work on, so many people not to disappoint, people to defeat, people to prove wrong, people to stand before. It’s never you vs them, it’s you vs yourself. You have to brace up and draw the battle line, fix a venue for the fight out because you have to overcome yourself because the first step before anyone believes you, it is that you have to believe in yourself. You have to determine to be better than yesterday because whether you think you can or you think you can’t, you are right. Whatever you cannot be in your heart, you can never be on the earth. A wise man once said “if you don’t believe in yourself and build your dreams, someone else will employ you to build theirs”. For over two decades of my life, I have come to the summary of only one fact and that is unless you defeat that enemy called yourself, you cannot achieve whatever set goals you have. You have to sit down, locate the enemy within, fish out the mediocrity, fire out the demon of inferiority complex. You have to ascertain that no one writes better than you do, sings better than you do, speaks better than you do, acts better than you do, preach better than you do, dramatizes better than you do, no one plays that football better than you do, no one runs
better than you do. Someone once said “I am in no competition with anyone, I have no desire to play the game better than anyone, and I only want to beat my yesterday”. That’s the spirit because no one lives that life for you, no one determines how your life turns out, no
one dictates the course run of your life, and it’s your sole responsibility.

90 % of failed lives are due to failed mentality, low self esteem and inferiority complex. Do you think you cannot pass that course just because others believe it’s difficult, do you think you are destined to follow in another shadow when you should create a silhouette, do you think you are cursed to have come from that family where the nine of you share the same room, the same plates and virtually the same mentality, do you think your life is just going to end within the four walls of a kitchen just because you didn’t have the totality of formal education, do you also think life is going to run over just because you are handicapped. If these and others are your thoughts, you can never go far, you can never exceed that limit, my principal in secondary school once said something and I quote, “ it is not a crime that your parents are living in a room with you and your 5 siblings, or have made mistake in their lives and fighting so hard to correct them, or can’t afford a 3 square meal on a daily basis, but it becomes a sin if you allow the same mistake envelope your life”. The biggest enemy you have to deal with is yourself; an African proverb says “if there is no enemy within, the enemy without can do us no harm” Before you continue sitting there and looking at closed doors and opportunities, or blaming God for the circumstances surrounding your life, or detesting yourself for not living up to expectation, I need you to examine the following people. Steve Jobs, net worth 7.2 billion dollars, Richard Branson net worth 4.2 billion dollars, Oprah Winfrey net worth 2.4 billion dollars, Mark Zuckerberg, Henry Ford, Bill Gates, Mohammed Alli, Jesus Christ, Socrates, mother Theresa, Winston Churchill, Malcolm X among others never saw the four walls of a higher learning institution, they only believed in themselves, they sought to make a path, not find a path, they determined to be a necessity not a liability. The fact that you can’t get formal education doesn’t put you in the back corner of life; it only gives you a wider horizon to discover what school cannot teach you. If because you don’t get the required marks at school or you are not a four pointer in your department, people tell you, you can’t make it, then, tell that to Malcolm X, who learnt everything he teaches the world today within the four walls of the prison, tell that to Dele Momodu who came out with a 3rd class from the university but rules the entertainment industry, tell that to Professor Wole Soyinka, Africa’s most respected Nobel laureate who has an open cheque to make free words in the dictionary, tell that to Albert Einstein who was tagged a dullard throughout his teenage/ youthful years but affected the world of science so much that after his death, his brain is still preserved to avoid decay, tell that to Ben Carson who was always last in his class and he’s the world’s most accomplished neurosurgeon. Hmmm!!!.

Never let anyone tell you, you can’t do something, not even your parents, if you have a dream, you must protect it, when people can’t do something themselves, they tell you that you can’t do it, if you want something, go get it. TELL THEM AND SHOW THEM HOW GREAT YOU ARE. I am going to tell you something you don’t know, the world there with all sunshine and rainbow is a nasty and dirty place that I don’t care how tough you are, it will beat you down to your feet and keep you there permanently if you let it, you, me and nobody is going to hit as much as life, but it’s not how much you are hit, it’s how much you can stand up and keep moving, no matter how much you are hit, keep moving forward. If you know what you need, you have to go get it not pointing fingers that you are not what you want to be because of him, her or anybody; cowards do that and that ain’t you, you are better than that.

Deepest fear shouldn’t be that you are inadequate, but that you are powerful beyond measures; it is your light, not your darkness that is meant to frighten you. Your playing small doesn’t serve the world, there is nothing enlightening about shrinking so that others do not feel insecure about you, we were all made to shine and as you do, you are unconsciously giving others the permission to do the same, as you are liberating from your fear, your presence automatically delivers others.

You can do it because you are great, you are smart, you are funny, you are kind, you are unique, you are precious, you are a diamond, a rose, the most stunning of God’s creations, you are strong, you are brave, you are never too much and you are always enough, you are worth more than you can ever imagine, you are capable, you are part of the lord’s most valuable creation, you have ability, you have potential, you have gifts, you have talents you have to show the world, you are a writer, an athlete, an inventor, an artiste, a musician, a technician, you have joy to share, jokes to tell, kind words to give people, you are full of more amazing qualities, traits, virtues you could ever imagine given to you by someone who expects your best, who loves you no matter who you are, whether you were born with a silver spoon or born with a plastic spoon, whether you are a four pointer in your department, or you are the top on the probation list, whether you are the richest on campus or you go to class every morning on empty stomach, whether you are the fastest or the slowest, the tallest or the shortest, the wisest or the most foolish, beautiful or ugly, bright or gloomy, whether you are the champion of champions or you think you are the loser, regardless of whom you may think you are, you are a masterpiece of God’s architectural prowess, a creator, you have a responsibility because you have a power inside of you, find that power, use that power, unleash that power, maximize that power, sublimate that power, because that power constitutes that mighty man inside of you, a man that laughs, teaches, comforts, protects, cries, encourages, shares, inspires, motivate and builds up others around him.

Your responsibility is to re-assess, having done the re-assessment, you find a man, after a man is found, set him free and after he is set free, you shall bring change to the world, to our broken, downtrodden, despicable world.
